Tourism revenue is on the rise in Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park and across the state, according to the latest data released by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. In 2011, visitors to Prince William generated $487 million in revenue, up almost 10 percent from 2010. In the City of Manassas and Manassas Park, visitors generated about $61 million, up 11 percent from 2010.

Volunteers with Tauck help preserve Prince William County’s history

Discover Prince William & Manassas, the area’s tourism marketing agency, received another award this week for its work on last year’s 150th commemoration of the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run. On May 22, the four-day commemoration entitled “The Moment that changed America” was named Destination Event of the Year for 2011 by the Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (VACVB). Discover Prince William & Manassas marketed the July 21-24 commemoration as well as planned and managed its two-day reenactment.

Hosted by the Prince William County Schools, the 2012 National SeaPerch Challenge will be April 11-13, with the competition taking place April 12 at the Manassas Park Community Center. A dinner with guest speaker Aneesh Chopra, former White House chief technology officer, is also planned.
