Event Details

Historic Dumfries Virginia is excited to announce a new program coming this spring - Scottish Teas at the Weems-Botts Museum. The program starts with a seated tea service in the Museum’s Annex Building where guests will savor Harney & Sons Scottish tea and gourmet Scottish scones and shortbread while learning about Dumfries’ Scottish heritage. Ever wondered how Dumfries got its name? This spring is the perfect time to find out! The program concludes with a tour of the Weems-Botts Museum. The guided tour includes period rooms decorated in 18th, 19th, and 20th century styles and covers how the property was used as a vestry by the colonial church, as a book depot by Parson Weems (George Washington’s first biographer and author of the cherry tree story), as a law office by Benjamin Botts (Aaron Burr’s youngest defense attorney during his 1807 treason trial) and as a home for nearly a century by the Merchant Family. This special springtime program will be offered on the second Sunday of the month in April, May, and June. The May program is offered on Mother’s Day. Each program runs from 10:00am-11:30am. Tickets are $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required. To make a reservation, please call Historic Dumfries Virginia at (703) 221-2218.
