“Prince William and Manassas are where history unfolded,” Discover Prince William & Manassas Executive Director Ann Marie Maher said. “Our partners have planned dozens of events that will provide visitors with a unique and rare look into a period that forever changed our nation.”

In August 1862, Union and Confederate troops clashed once again on Prince William’s soil in one of the largest battles of the Civil War. “Stonewall” Jackson and Robert E. Lee became legends for their leadership during this battle and it made President Lincoln begin to rethink the purpose of the war.

It was a significant battle for the Confederates because it gave them control of Virginia and to the “gates of Washington, D.C.” With the victory, the Confederate Army would take the war north into Maryland for the first time. Here are just a few of the events Prince William County, the City of Manassas and the Manassas National Battlefield Park have planned to commemorate the Battle of Second Manassas/Bull Run.
