154th Anniversary Battle of Bristoe Station "In-Time" Tours

This October 14th battle, while small, was the culmination of Lee's last offensive of the War. Family Day--Sketchpad Marines: The Marine Corps Combat Art Program

The Combat Art Program in the Marine Corps can trace its roots to 1942 when Brigadier General Robert Denig said, “Go to war, do art.” Today, the Combat Art Program collection includes more than 9,000 works. Battle of Bristoe Station Anniversary Weekend Tours and Luminary

Join Battlefield Park staff for the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Bristoe Station. Tour a Civil War encampment, watch artillery firing demonstrations, and tour the site of the third and final battle that took place in Prince William County. On Saturday evening, visit the battlefield for a rare treat to see over 2,000 luminary candles for every soldier who died at Bristoe Station. Living history vignettes will be located across the battlefield and self-guided tours will lead visitors to meet the men and women who made history here. Attachments

Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park Tours

Bristoe Station Battlefield staff and volunteers will provide guided tours of the hallowed grounds that contain camps, cemeteries, and battlefields. Learn about Camp Jones and the battles that took place in 1862 and 1863. Tours begin on the hour and depart from the kiosk in the parking lot on Iron Brigade Unit Avenue. The last tour leaves at 3PM. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Insect repellant is encouraged. No pets please. Attachments

154th Anniversary of Battle of Auburn "In-Time" Tours

While the Bristoe campaign culminated on the afternoon of October 14, 1864 at the Battle of Bristoe Station, another battle earlier in the day had a profound impact on the course of events. With elements of both armies at times cut off, the Battle of Auburn was a small but important battle that set the stage for fighting later in the day. The Forgotten World War and Its Impact at Home: World War I Collaborative Exhibit with the Manassas Musuem

Themes will include music and propaganda, the impact of the Spanish Flu epidemic in the area, and the growth of farms and local military bases and their impact on the county. Visual Magic - The Art of Four Picture Book Illustrators Visual Magic features four talented children’s book illustrators: Janet Stoeke, Carol Schwartz, Susan Roth, and Jennifer O’Connell. The artists have contributed to multiple children’s publications, and their crisp dynamic images bring life to the stories. They work with various mediums, including gouache, Photoshop, and even collage to express topics that range from science and nature to culture and history! Meet the illustrators at the reception, September 16, 2017 at 5:30 pm. *Bookworm Central will have books available for purchase at the reception. ********* Greater Manassas/Prince William County sponsors theatrical productions for children and adults, teaches arts classes, promotes visual arts and provides community outreach programs for local youth. Founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers, the Center aims to enrich the quality of life in the Northern Virginia suburbs through arts performance and education.
