Opening Reception for The Exposure Group

January 25 – March 3 Colors of Life: The Exposure Group Member’s 6th Juried Photography Traveling Exhibition The Exposure Group photographers bring forth multiple interpretations of the experience of living in the DC metropolitan area. This visual and impactful body of work shares some of our Nation’s Capital outside of the usual tourist areas. The Exposure Group represents the gamut of subject matter including landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, architectural, and photojournalism. This exhibit will fascinate anyone with an interest in photography. The art will speak for itself. Come join us for the opening reception on February 4, 6-8 PM, hosted by The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. It will be a wine and cheese reception with live music, light hors d'oeuvres, and door prizes.

National Museum of the Marine Corps' Annual MRE Cook-off

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is looking for a few good cooks to compete in our Annual MRE Cook-off! Here are the guidelines for the cook-off: 1. Contestants “blindly” pull 2 MREs from a box 2. Contestants will create one meal from the 2 MREs for presentation to a panel of judges. 3. Contestants can bring any special ingredients they can fit into a gallon plastic bag (approximately the size of a cargo pocket on the utility uniform) to use to enhance their meal. 4. The Museum will furnish heating elements and other basic supplies. After tasting all the contestants' meals, our judges will choose one skilled “chef” to take home the coveted Golden Canteen Cup! This is always a fun event to attend. We hope you will join us! There are only 8 competitor spots available for the MRE Cook-off. The deadline for entering is Feb 2. Lucasville School Open Weekends

Join us as we celebrate African American History Month at the historic Lucasville School with our open house weekends in February. With a special performance by the Ebenezer Baptist Church on February 11th at 11 a.m., visit the reconstructed 19th century school used by the community of Lucasville. Learn surprising facts of African American history in Prince William County and throughout the Northern Virginia region. Each weekend, enjoy a different activity in the schoolhouse, from tours and crafts, to photograph exhibits.
National Museum of the Marine Corps Volunteer & Docent Training

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is seeking individuals to volunteer within museum departments as well as on the museum floor as docents. Candidates will be trained in Marine Corps history and basic museum studies. The training course begins on Saturday, February 04, 2017 (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM). Schedule of training: Feb 4 & 11 (9 AM - 1 PM)-- Initial training of volunteers* and docents Feb 18, 25; Mar 4, 11, 18, 25; Apr 1, 8 (9 AM - 1 PM)-- Docent training continues every Saturday for 8 weeks after initial training. *Additional Volunteer training will be determined by each Museum department.
