Night Owl Hike

You will dissect owl pellets, put together a skeleton, and identify the species of your masterpiece. Later we will share the night at the amphitheater with our nocturnal birds of prey where we will learn about their unique adaptation and the environmental challenges that they face. Lastly we will hike up to freestone point where we will watch the sunset as we try to get in contact with screech owls and barred owls. $2 per owl pellet Due to the limited supplies, please RSVP in advance by calling the Visitor Center at (703) 583-6904 Attachments

Music at the Marina - IR (short for In Remembrance)

Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic basket and enjoy the band of IR at Music at the Marina. They are a cover band with some original songs. IR is a huge supporter of our troops, and plays to honor Marine Corps Captain Brian Letendre and all other fallen military and Gold Stars. Osprey Observation

During the spring and summer, osprey dominate the skies over Leesylvania as they build nests and raise their young. Join a ranger to get a closer look at these feathered fishermen. Canoe Tour at Leesylvania

Our canoe tours are designed to help those that are new to canoeing to learn the basics of paddling. Experienced individuals are also encouraged to come to enjoy the wildlife and scenic views. We can support up to 24 people on a tour depending on age, size, and skill set. The cost is $9.00 per person, or $6.00 per person when reserving for groups of 4 or more. Yoga on the Lawn

Enjoy performing yoga on the lawn with amazing views of the Potomac River and historic Rippon Lodge in the background. No one could ask for a better outdoor venue to exercise. Join certified instructor Christopher Glowacki for an hour-long Vinyasa yoga practice. Beginning yoga students to well versed devotes are welcomed. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, towel and plenty of water; beginners may want to bring a block and/or strap. Classes offered most Saturday morning from June to October. Call Rippon Lodge to confirm class day and times. Those purchasing 10 classes will receive punch cards, which are good for the whole season. Attachments

Home School Day at the Weems-Botts Museum

The Weems-Botts Museum welcomes area home school families to a tour of the historic house museum and a hands-on, SOL-based lesson on archaeology. Families will participate in a mock "dig." Kids will have so much fun they won't even know they are learning about observations versus inferences while they use their critical thinking skills to interpret the artifacts they discover. They will also get the chance to hold real artifacts, try and piece together pot sherds, and make a fossil imprint or petroglyph carving to take home. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in our covered pavilion area in Merchant Park. $5/youth (6-18); adults and children under 6 free. Reservations appreciated.Attachments
