Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park Tours

Bristoe Station Battlefield staff and volunteers will provide guided tours of the hallowed grounds that contain camps, cemeteries, and battlefields. Learn about Camp Jones and the battles that took place in 1862 and 1863. Tours begin on the hour and depart from the kiosk in the parking lot on Iron Brigade Unit Avenue. The last tour leaves at 3PM. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Insect repellant is encouraged. No pets please. Attachments

Yoga on the Lawn at Rippon Lodge

Enjoy performing yoga on the lawn with amazing views of the Potomac River and historic Rippon Lodge in the background. No one could ask for a better outdoor venue to exercise. Join certified instructor Christopher Glowacki for an hour long Vinyasa yoga practice. Beginning yoga students to well-versed devotes are welcomed. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, towel and plenty of water; beginners may want to bring a block and/or strap. Classes are offered most Saturday mornings from May to September. Call Rippon Lodge to confirm class day and times. Those purchasing 10 classes will receive punch cards which are good for the whole season. Additional classes may be purchased at any time. Docent Training at the Marine Corps Museum

Looking for a way to join the Marine Corps community? Have a passion for museums or history? The National Museum of the Marine Corps is seeking docents! New Volunteer and Docent Training begins on September 23, 2017. Candidates will be trained in Marine Corps history and basic museum studies. Schedule of training: Sept 23 & 30 (8 AM - 12 PM)-- Initial training of volunteers* and docents Oct 7, 14, 21, 28; Nov 4 -- Docent training continues every Saturday for 5 weeks after initial training. *Additional Volunteer training will be determined by each Museum department. Visual Magic - The Art of Four Picture Book Illustrators Visual Magic features four talented children’s book illustrators: Janet Stoeke, Carol Schwartz, Susan Roth, and Jennifer O’Connell. The artists have contributed to multiple children’s publications, and their crisp dynamic images bring life to the stories. They work with various mediums, including gouache, Photoshop, and even collage to express topics that range from science and nature to culture and history! Meet the illustrators at the reception, September 16, 2017 at 5:30 pm. *Bookworm Central will have books available for purchase at the reception. ********* Greater Manassas/Prince William County sponsors theatrical productions for children and adults, teaches arts classes, promotes visual arts and provides community outreach programs for local youth.
