Historic Brentsville Schoolhouse Happy Hour

Out of the Darkness Community Walk

7th Annual Bands, Brews, & Barbecue

Historic Downtown Manassas will hold its 7th Annual Bands, Brews, and Barbecue Festival on September 9, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (last pour at 5:30 p.m.). This ticketed event features award winning craft beers for sampling and Northern Virginia’s best barbecue – as well as incredible live music. Ticket prices will go up the day of the event. School is Back in Session!

Are you excited that school has started again? Going to school was very different a hundred years ago than it is today. Visit the one room school houses at Lucasville School and Brentsville Courthouse to learn about the different ways that students learned in a segregated society. Try some of the tools that were used to teach in each of the schools, some of the games they played, and even make a craft at each school to take home! Not behaving well in school? Learn about some of the different ways students were disciplined, it may shock you! Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park Tours

Bristoe Station Battlefield staff and volunteers will provide guided tours of the hallowed grounds that contain camps, cemeteries, and battlefields. Learn about Camp Jones and the battles that took place in 1862 and 1863. Tours begin on the hour and depart from the kiosk in the parking lot on Iron Brigade Unit Avenue. The last tour leaves at 3PM. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Insect repellant is encouraged. No pets please. Attachments

Yoga on the Lawn at Rippon Lodge

Enjoy performing yoga on the lawn with amazing views of the Potomac River and historic Rippon Lodge in the background. No one could ask for a better outdoor venue to exercise. Join certified instructor Christopher Glowacki for an hour long Vinyasa yoga practice. Beginning yoga students to well-versed devotes are welcomed. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, towel and plenty of water; beginners may want to bring a block and/or strap. Classes are offered most Saturday mornings from May to September. Call Rippon Lodge to confirm class day and times. Those purchasing 10 classes will receive punch cards which are good for the whole season. Additional classes may be purchased at any time. Potomac Blockade Boat Tour

Potomac Blockade Boat Tour 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; $45 per person Cruise along the Potomac River shoreline and view sites that were critical to the Confederate forces' successful blockade of Washington D.C. from September 1861 through March 1862. Local historians will discuss the significance of the Blockade and of the gun batteries and camps that supported the Confederate efforts. The cruise will include the preserved batteries at Freestone Point and Possum Nose, as well as Evansport and Shipping Point. Tour includes lunch and departs from Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge. Winner of three Grammy Awards, 14 Academy of Country Music Awards, 14 Country Music Association Awards, and two American Music Awards, country artist Brad Paisley launched into the music scene with the release of his 1999 debut album Who Needs Pictures. To date, Paisley has released ten studio albums and a Christmas compilation, all of which have been been certified by the RIAA as Gold or above. Medal of Honor Recipient Douglas Munro and the U.S. Coast Guard in WWII Presentation

In a special two day event at the Museum, U.S. Coast Guard historian, Beth Crumley will be sharing the personal history of Medal of Honor recipient Douglas Munro. Munro, the only Medal of Honor recipient for the Coast Guard, died a hero evacuating a battalion of Marines trapped by the Japanese at Guadalcanal on September 27, 1942. He is a legend in the Coast Guard and the Marine Corps. Ms. Crumley will also be providing information on the history of the USCG’s mission at Guadalcanal, specifically on the events of the 2d Battle of Matanikau. Also during the event, the Museum will have on display for visitors, Munro’s Medal of Honor and special artifacts and exhibits on the Battle of Guadalcanal. This is the first time since the 1960s that Munro's medal has been on display outside of the USCG Academy in Connecticut. Visitors are welcome to attend the presentations by Ms Crumley at 1:00 pm daily. Attachments
