Eggstravaganza at Ben Lomond Historic Site

Ben Lomond Historic Site and Pat White Center at Ben Lomond are coming together for a special Eggstravagazna, but we have lost our eggs and are asking for your help to find them! Egg Hunts will be at 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm at the historic site and each hunt will be separated by age groups. Try your skills at a historic egg roll as well as enjoying fun kid friendly games and crafts at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond. Bring your own basket for egg collecting. The Deadliest Enemy: Disease in the Civil War

Since the very beginning of the Civil War, disease was a critical problem among the armies of both North and South. By the war’s end, two thirds of the soldiers who died during the fighting died from disease instead of battle wounds. During this special tour of the field hospital, learn about why disease was such a big issue, what diseases swept through the regiments, their causes, and the treatments used to try and cure the soldiers. Stonewall Brigade Bus Tour

After the Battle of First Manassas, Ben Lomond served as a Confederate field hospital to treat the wounded. Visit Ben Lomond close to the 156th anniversary of the battle and learn from historians and Civil War reenactors how soldiers were treated during the Civil War and how the conditions of these hospitals differ from the hospitals we have today. The weekend will consist of demonstrations, tours, children’s activities, and a special evening program recreating the hospital on Saturday evening from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be on site and those who donate blood will receive free admission into the daytime event or half price admission to the evening event. Attachments

Paranormal 101

Ben Lomond has a diverse history from being a Civil War hospital to the home of countless slaves. Today, many local residents claim that the house and grounds are haunted by spirits from the past. Ben Lomond Historic Site is partnering with East Coast Research and Investigation of the Paranormal (ECRIP) to host a paranormal seminar and investigation at Ben Lomond. ECRIP is a local volunteer group of researchers who investigate claims of potential paranormal phenomena and educate interested parties by sharing collective research, experience, knowledge and theories. Participants will first attend a seminar with discussions about various theories and current techniques. Afterwards, participants will work alongside members of ECRIP in a paranormal investigation. The seminar will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The investigation will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight. Space is limited for the investigation. Reservations are required. Attachments

Overnight Stay at the Pringle House Hospital

From July 21 until the end of August, 1861, Ben Lomond was converted into the Pringle House Hospital to care for hundreds of wounded soldiers after the fateful events of the first major battle of the Civil War. Join site historians in a unique opportunity to spend the night in the hospital and learn about the wounded soldiers who were treated there, the families who were impacted, and the effects of the war on Northern Virginia. The evening will include a tour of the hospital, an evening campfire, and more. Breakfast will be provided in the morning. Participants must bring their own sleeping materials. Attachments

Manassas' Civil War Hospitals Caravan Tour

Manassas was the site of two major battles fought on July 21, 1861, and August 28-30, 1862, along the banks of Bull Run. The horrors of battle did not end for many men when these battles ended, but continued in the numerous hospitals that were set up throughout the area, proving to be some of the bloodier battles in history to that point, the hospitals were overrun with more casualties than they expected. Join us as we visit the hospitals of Manassas, to learn about medicine at the beginning of the Civil War, about the soldiers who were treated in these hospitals, and about the families whose homes were commandeered. Hospital Horrors

A Civil War Soldier's Campfire

Enjoy a warm campfire at Ben Lomond Historic Site and learn how Confederate soldiers lived during the American Civil War. Practice drilling with a Civil War soldier, see a musket firing demonstration, and learn about the rations given to Confederate soldiers.
