Family Day - Rations in Your Lunchbox

subjectThe Marine Corps has had to feed a lot of people in adverse conditions since its beginning. Learn about the evolution and invention of rations in the Marine Corps and how some of those inventions are in your lunchbox today. Family Day events are open to the public and FREE! Family Day Programs and Special Events are free and open to the public. All Family Day programs are from Noon-3pm on Saturdays unless otherwise noted. Annual MRE Cook-off!

subjectThe National Museum of the Marine Corps is looking for a few good cooks to compete in our Annual MRE Cook-off! Here are the guidelines for the cook-off: 1. Contestants “blindly” pull 2 MREs from a box 2. Contestants will create one meal from the 2 MREs for presentation to a panel of judges. 3. Contestants can bring any special ingredients they can fit into a gallon plastic bag (approximately the size of a cargo pocket on the utility uniform) to use to enhance their meal. 4. The Museum will furnish heating elements and other basic supplies. After tasting all the contestants' meals, our judges will choose one skilled “chef” to take home the coveted Golden Canteen Cup! This is always a fun event to attend. We hope you will join us! Attachments

History in your Hands

subjectHIYH is a program for visitors of all ages who are blind or have low vision. HIYH is an opportunity to interact with the collections through tactile exploration of selected objects, and through verbal description, tactile graphics, and other materials for artifacts that cannot be touched. Trained Museum volunteers and Visitor Services staff lead these events. There is no fee for this program, but preregistration is required. Family Day - WWI - 100th Anniversary of Belleau Wood

Living history, special displays and activities will take place inside the Museum and out.
