Feb 24 2:00 pm Secret of the Cardboard Rocket: Adventure through the solar system in the Cardboard Rocket! Travel with two children and their navigator, the talking astronomy book. Visit the Sun, the planets, the Moon and more. The narration track was edited in 2007 for the reclassification of Pluto to dwarf planet. References to “smallest planet,” “ninth planet,” and “last planet” were removed and Pluto is simply termed a planet in view of it being a new category of planet. Feb 24 3:30 pm Laser Spirit of America: A laser program that celebrates the accomplishments and dreams of humanity. Utilizing a wonderful mix of pop, classic rock, oldies, adult contemporary, and patriotic music, Laser Spirit is a motivating laser show that will make you proud to be a visionary, idealist, achiever and American. This program is accompanied with stirring laser effects, beautiful background artwork and images that all come together to produce an uplifting and inspirational experience. Discover the perils that lurk in space as we subject ‘Chad’, our test astronaut, to everything that space has to throw at him. Feb 24 6:30 pm Dynamic Earth: Dynamic Earth explores the inner workings of Earth’s climate system, following a trail of energy that flows from our Sun into the interconnected systems that create our climate. You’ll ride on swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a hurricane, come face-to-face with sharks and whales and fly into fiery volcanoes! This fulldome planetarium show is the result of a two-year collaboration between Spitz Creative Media, the advanced visualization lab at the National Center of Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois, and Thomas Lucas Productions Inc. Manassas Ballet Theatre closes our 2017-18 season with an original and very personal ballet, Colin: Son, Marine, Hero. MBT is proud to once again present this full-length ballet, showcasing the story of Artistic Director Amy Grant Wolfe’s son Colin, who lost his life in Iraq to a roadside bomb in 2006. Colin debuted in November 2014 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center after Wolfe expanded her original one act ballet, gathering inspiration by interviewing Colin’s commander and fellow Marines during the summer of 2014 and adding new layers to the original heart of the story. The ballet Colin continues to evolve for this season’s presentation as Wolfe incorporates new ideas to further enhance the story. The Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra will perform the original score by acclaimed composer Mark Menza. Attachments
