National Junior Ranger Day

On National Junior Ranger Day, everyone has the opportunity to become a Junior Ranger and be a truly part of your National Parks. Earn the Junior Ranger badge and certificate by completing one of the special activities available on this day. Hike with a park ranger at 10:45 or at 12:15; craft and create with a park volunteer. Recite the junior ranger pledge at a ceremony to recognize your achievements at 11:30 or at 1. Adults as well as children are welcome. All events begin at the Visitor Center. The event takes place from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Attachments

Earth Day - From Trash to Treasure

Join us to celebrate Earth Day by creating crafts from recyclables goods. Come learn how to make a bird feeder, a basket to organize your room, a reusable shopping bag, and a cookie tray organizer from items found laying around at home. Simply bring your packaging boxes, old pillow cases, and old cookie trays. Lastly, for children we will have activity tables with fun upcycle crafts for all ages. Spring Migration Bird and Nature Walk

Come discover this unique 120 acre property in the heart of Woodbridge! During the guided walk, listen to local birding experts as they point out the various speciesof birds that visit our wetlands, as well as other creatures that dwell in Neabsco Creek. Don't forget to bring a camera for wonderful photo opportunities. Bring binoculars, guide books, water, and camera. Please dress appropriately for the weather-wear comfortable walking shoes or boots, layered clothing, and coat or jacket. Natural trails may be muddy due to wet weather. No pets, please. Attachments

Paws in the Park

Potomac Blockade Boat Tour

Cruise along the Potomac River shoreline and view sites that were critical to the Confederate forces successful blockade of Washington DC from September 1861 through March 1862. Local historians will discuss the significance of the Blockade and of the gun batteries and camps that supported the Confederate efforts. The cruise will include the preserved batteries at Freestone Point and Possum Nose, as well as Evansport and Shipping Point. Tour includes lunch and departs from marina at Leesylvania State Park. Clean the Bay Day/National Trails Day

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Join us as we support the annual effort to clean the Chesapeake Bay by removing trash from its tributary rivers and streams. Be sure to wear bug spray, sunscreen, clothes and closed toed shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Lend us a hand and learn what it takes to keep trails clear and safe for park guests to hike on. We'll be getting our hands dirty as we work with tools to recapture a trail from forest growth and soil erosion from Japanese stiltgrass. Please bring work gloves and don't forget to wear clothes and closed toed shoes you don't mind getting dirty. The Eagle has Landed

Canoe Tour

Our canoe tours are designed to help those that are new to canoeing to learn the basics of paddling. Experienced individuals are also encouraged to come to enjoy the wildlife and scenic views. Music at the Marina - IR (short for In Remembrance)

Entrance Fee Free Day for National Public Lands Day

Fee-free days provide a great opportunity to visit a new place or an old favorite. They will give both first time and repeat visitors a good reason to spend time in our national parks. National Public Lands Day is the largest, single-day volunteer effort on behalf of parks and other public lands in the United States of America. OSS Day

Ranger hike will take visitors deep into the forest off-trail to look at an WWII OSS training area. This trek is not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers or babies in backpacks. Please wear sturdy footgear. Ranger talk at the dining hall in the afternoon. Explore Cabin Camp 2 on your own. See the lake from the reservation-only side.
