Brentsville has a diverse history from being a County seat for Prince William County to being a quiet town. Today, many local residents claim that the jail, courthouse and grounds are haunted by spirits from the past. Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre is partnering with East Coast Research and Investigation of the Paranormal (ECRIP) to host a paranormal seminar and investigation at Brentsville. ECRIP is a local volunteer group of researchers who investigate claims of potential paranormal phenomena and educate interested parties by sharing collective research, experience, knowledge and theories. Participants will first attend a seminar with discussions about various theories and current techniques. Afterwards, participants will work alongside members of ECRIP in a paranormal investigation. The seminar will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The investigation will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight. Space is limited for the investigation. Reservations are required. Attachments

We invite everyone to come out and experience the excitement of orienteering at a National Championship event on the debut maps of some of the finest orienteering terrain in the Mid-Atlantic region. The 2017 U.S. Classic Champs will be the first events ever in two newly mapped areas of the Marine Corps Base Quantico. Come celebrate Quantico Orienteering Club’s 50th anniversary and be the first orienteers to see this new terrain! Hosted by Quantico Orienteering Club, the 2017 U.S. Classic Champs event will feature two days of Classic Orienteering Competition . Bristoe Station Veteran's Day Commemorative Tour

During four years of war, hundreds of Civil War soldiers were buried in the area around Bristoe Station. Some died in the two battles that were fought for control of the strategic railroad. Others succumbed to disease they were encamped in the area from a few days to a few months. While some remains were removed after the war, many still reside in the area. Join us for a free book talk with Rick Richter on his book "Three Cheers fro the Chesapeake" at 1:30 p.m. Illustrated with previously unpublished photos, letters, documents, and diary entries, the untoldstory of the Chesapeake Artillery comes to light. Comprised chiefly of men who lived near the shores of its namesake bay, the Chesapeake Artillery was the last Confederate battery organized from the state of Maryland. It was also by far the smallest, with barely more than half the average enrollment of other Maryland batteries in the Confederate army. Despite its size, the unit was frequently cited for its bravery and efficiency, including by Stonewall Jackson. This is the history of the unit, from its formation through all its battles with the Army of Northern Virginia until the surrender at Appomattox, where only 13 men remained. A unique statistical analysis of census and military records data highlights its characteristics. Included is a complete roster of all the men who served in the unit.Attachments
