History in Your Hands

History in Your Hands 1:00pm-3:00pm HIYH is a program for visitors of all ages who are blind or have low vision. HIYH is an opportunity to interact with the collections through tactile exploration of selected objects, and through verbal description, tactile graphics, and other materials for artifacts that cannot be touched. Trained Museum volunteers and Visitor Services staff lead these events. There is no fee for this program, but pre-registration is required. Civil War Basic Summer Camp

Virginia Little League Tournament

It is the Virginia Little League Championship. Teams from across the state will travel to Prince William County, from as far as eight hours away, to play for the chance to win and move on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. A total of 35 games will be played over the tournament’s five days, July 21 to 25. On the field, more than 500 children and teens will take the field and play baseball. Again, this is the tournament that will decide who will represent the great state of Virginia in the Little League World Series. Attachments

The Aftermath of Battle First Manassas Weekend

After the Battle of First Manassas, Ben Lomond served as a Confederate field hospital to treat the wounded. Visit Ben Lomond close to the 156th anniversary of the battle and learn from historians and Civil War reenactors how soldiers were treated during the Civil War and how the conditions of these hospitals differ from the hospitals we have today. The weekend will consist of demonstrations, tours, children’s activities, and a special evening program recreating the hospital on Saturday evening from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be on site and those who donate blood will receive free admission into the daytime event or half price admission to the evening event. Attachments

Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park Tours

Bristoe Station Battlefield staff and volunteers will provide guided tours of the hallowed grounds that contain camps, cemeteries, and battlefields. Learn about Camp Jones and the battles that took place in 1862 and 1863. Tours begin on the hour and depart from the kiosk in the parking lot on Iron Brigade Unit Avenue. The last tour leaves at 3PM. Saturday night and it is MIGHTY DUCKS night at the ballpark as the P-Nats continue their set with the Hillcats. Actor Lester Averman, who played in the movie, will be on hand to sign autographs and throw out the first pitch-and he will be depicted on a bobblehead to be given out to the first 1250 fans. Players will be wearing Mighty Ducks-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
